Rally day has changed this year due to the interim pastor's new vision. We're doing a Back to School Weekend, where we pray for the kids, teachers, and other school staff/administrators in the community in each service. On Saturday night, we're also doing a "drive in" movie (indoors, though, because Texas is so hot and the state bird is the mosquito). Sunday is a festival type of thing with a moonwalk bouncy thing and booths representing every committee in the church (like a volunteer fair would have).
The theme is Exploring God's World Together, so we're having Treasure Maps to wind people through the building. I think in the CM area, we're going to have an archaeology dig (sandbox with toys buried) and a craft like putting jungle spots on bags (so that they can carry all of their prizes and a CM brochure). Any other ideas? I think we're all going to wear Safari hats, too.
Saturday is an exciting day, too, because we're having a brainstorming blitz for the whole year! Yea!

Sounds like a lot of fun. Also really tiring.
Cave dwellings & exploring are wonderful activities. What about a Maze?? I think it would work really well by taping boxes together like the Youth did at FUMC in a maze form. Were you there to experience that?? I cannot remember the last time we did this; BUT it was a great success and the kids loved it.
You need a big room, cardboard boxes, Duck Tape and chairs to put along side the maze to act as supports. You will need flash lights to go through also. Fans also!!
You open the ends of the cardboard boxes and tape them together. Remember to make dead ends. Fans go at various points to keep air flowing through the maze so it is not too hot. Kids can then go through with "guides"
Making treasure chests would be a great craft also.
I think that sending off the kids in to the school year is a wonderful idea!
The drive in is another great idea, one we did at FUMC - the kids wore their skates and what not. - Was a great out reach! I am sure that it will be great fun.
Tell me more about the brainstorming blitz and I will tell you more about "It takes a Village" and the new opportunity I may have for it!!!!
I thought of the treasure chest thing, but they can get pretty pricey. Our budget is pretty strict on this one.

I forgot to say something. THe mosquito in Texas isn't anything what it is here in Minnesota. Our's could eat your alive. The mosquitos are about a half and inch to an inch in size and they can drain a lot of blood. Usually if there is one, There are thousands on the way. It's do to the wonderful lakes of ours. Last year they had 1,000,000 mosquitos in a 5 inch by 5 inch water bucket. So needless to say we have over 10,000 lakes. Which makes a lot of mosquitos.
Treasure chests can be made of cardboard boxes, tape and construction paper and or crayons!!!! Think Low Budget and don't be afraid to beg for supplies from local vendors.
Boxes are often FREE from stores such a Wal Mart, K Mart and what not, even Winn Dixie!!!
